Another Casualty of the Economy: Wilkes University Law School

According to a recent Scranton, PA Times Tribune article, a stagnant economy combined with the Wilkes University's separate commitment to try to complete $80 million dollars in renovations to a building that houses the school's science, health, and engineering programs, led the university's board of trustees to suspend the plan to build a law school on the school's Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania campus.

The President of Wilkes University noted hopes to rejuvenate the plans on the law school in a few years.

Upcoming Continental Breakfast and Discussion with Dean Loren Prescott re Status of Wilkes Law School

On Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 8 a.m. - 9 a.m., the Association of Women Lawyers of Lackawanna County will be hosting a continental breakfast and discussion with Dean Loren Prescott of the Wilkes Law School Initiative. The event is open to the public and Dean Prescott is expected to discuss the plans and current status of the new Wilkes Law School.

The event is set to take place on the 5th floor of the University of Scranton's Brennan Hall in the Casey Conference Room. It has been requested that you RSVP to MOBrien@TheOBrienLawGroup.com if you plan on attending.

I plan on attending this event and, if I am able to do so, I will provide information in a future post as to what was discussed.
